Overview
Problem Discovery
Vacationers often face frustration ordering snacks at the beach due to long wait times, difficulty finding shops, and no delivery to open beach areas. I wanted to explore this issue further and study whether it affects others to find a relevant solution.
Product Goals
Create a convenient and efficient solution for vacationers at the beach to easily order and receive snacks, reducing wait times, simplifying shop discovery, and enabling delivery to open beach areas.
The Discovery
User Research
In my research with beach travelers and coastal residents, I targeted their snack-ordering frustrations. I gathered insights through 25 surveys and 10 interviews, then used a card-sorting exercise to identify common themes, prioritizing issues like wait times, shop discovery, and snack delivery challenges.
"What are the key challenges you experience when ordering snacks at the beach, particularly in relation to wait times, finding snack shops, and getting food delivered to open beach areas?"
Competitive Analysis
Competitors prioritize product variety and payment flexibility but lack customer-centric experiences. Their platforms are built for indoor orders, limiting their ability to serve open spaces like beaches and rest areas. This gap offers an opportunity to stand out by delivering a more tailored, outdoor-friendly solution.
Final Designs
Delivery to the Beach
Develop a solution for delivering snacks to difficult-to-reach locations like beaches and allow users to track food preparation with a drop-off point at a lifeguard station and an interactive map.
Advanced Filtering
Developed design with improved filtering for people with various dietary specifications. Most of the time users order food for a group of people and it takes time to find the best options based on their preferences. I designed an expended filter and detailed order customization.
The Impact
Positive Result and Plans
The MVP1 conceptual design demonstrates a potential solution for open-space food delivery, specifically addressing the needs of those with special dietary requirements. This design can be tested with users and has the potential to attract small business owners for future collaboration, driving local business growth while enhancing the vacation dining experience.
